Project Brief
A luxury villa in the outskirts of Delhi sought to upgrade its façade and indoor-outdoor flow. The aim was to let in more natural light, connect interior spaces to gardens/patio, improve thermal comfort, and bring a modern look without compromising privacy.
Challenges
-
Existing windows were small, with thick frames, limiting daylight and obstructing views.
-
Heat gain was significant, especially in summer afternoons.
-
The villa’s design required balance: large glass expanses but structural strength, security, and Indian climate suitability.
Solution by Alurac
-
Facade Glazing System with Semi-Unitized Panels
A semi-unitized glazing system was chosen for the villa front. This allowed large glass panels with minimal visible frame, delivering elegance and high transparency. Reinforced aluminium frames were used for structural support. -
High Performance Glazed Sliding Doors
The ground floor facing the garden received floor-to-ceiling sliding doors. The chosen sliding systems feature high-quality seals, wide glass panels, and aluminium tracks designed for smooth and climate-resistant operation. -
Integrated Design with ACP Cladding
To add contrast and reduce monotony, portions of the façade were clad in ACP panels with matte finish, aligned with the glazing to create clean lines. This helps also in heat reflection and adds a premium texture. -
Consideration of Insulation & Ventilation
Double-glazed units with solar control coating were used to reduce heat gain while maintaining views. Operable sections allowed cross-ventilation. Also, overhangs and shading were designed to protect glazing.
Outcomes
-
The villa now has a much brighter interior with pleasing garden views.
-
Energy bills dropped due to improved insulation and fewer cooling loads.
-
The aesthetic upgrade (sleek glass, slim aluminium frames, contrasting ACP) raised its market appeal.
-
Homeowners report better comfort and satisfaction with natural light, smooth sliding door operation, and low maintenance.
Key Learnings
-
Prioritize glazing type & seal quality: small issues in installation or material can reduce performance dramatically.
-
Design harmoniously: balance between glass, cladding, and frame visibility matters.
-
Customization is essential: every design is unique; standard sizes or mechanisms may not suit aesthetic or functional needs.
